Personal Summary and Commentary

I work with digital media in both the art and business industries, and bring a unique talent and perspective having worked extensively in both the high-tech software industry and the artful digital photography industry.  Technology and the arts are many times viewed as polar opposites, yet the two worlds overlap, interact, and contribute with one another, advancing and evolving both. Influences for me have been family, my brothers, friends, international living, my dogs, years at West Point, the martial arts, and many other influences for which I am grateful.

Creative

My entree into the creative, photography, and fine art printing world began with software and in particular with Photoshop.    Utilizing color spaces, light and luminosity, contrast and sharpeness, blur and non-blur in combination with computing hardware and fine art media helps us produce fine art imagery.  I shoot photographs on a daily basis with a Nikon D3 and a variety of pro lenses, an extension of the mind and eye.  For me it is critical that I create and shoot photographs always, both for the creation and expression, but also because it makes me a better professional in working with other photographers, with interior designers, private clients.

Photography

Photograpy for me, as Jay Maisel says, is working with "Light, Color, and Gesture".   Also however, using the eye along with the tools of a camera, printers, color management techniques, and software such as Photoshop are all part of photography and the services I provide to clients. Today I use a broad range of Nikon equipment and shoot with a Nikon D3 with a myriad of lenses depending on the situation. Which lenses? Here's the current inventory: 50mm 1.8, 85mm 1.8, 70-200mm VR 2.8, and a 105mm VRII 2.8, and a 14mm fisheye.

Travel

I have been lucky enough to live in some beatiful and exciting places to include Chicago, NYC, Vancouver, Switzerland (Lausanne, on the banks of Lake Geneva), and Denmark (Copenhagen) and working throughout North America, Europe, and Asia ( Hong Kong and Bangkok, Thailand) gave and continues to give quite a perspective of what we are as people.

Education

My initial two years of college began at The United States Military Academy, known by most as West Point and after a fantastic experience with then and current lifelong friends decided to pursue a non-military career and completed my BS and MS in Statistics at The University of Tennessee where I taught undergraduate statistics, completed a memorable and rewarding internship and thesis project with General Motors, and am forever indebted to Gipsie Ranney, Ph.D. for teaching me, albeit through relentless torture and mind-numbing theoretical statistics exams, how to dig the deepest, challenge the mind, and discover you can surprise yourself and others with results if you have a theory.
